About
This project is an exploration of the optimal configuration of modular blocks on a fictional site. Our intervention is the development of a generic site within a medium to high density urban context. It is composed of a 100x100x50m buildable volume that arranges 10x10x3m blocks laterally and vertically. The aim is to generate an optimal configuration of buildings within the site that maximizes density and produces a variety of building types, whilst also maximizing usable open space - which was assigned as park/green space. We have defined ‘usable open space’ to be continuous areas larger than 25m2, the size of one block. We also conducted sun studies to determine the areas that are unobstructed by the shadows of surrounding buildings and receive an ample amount of sunlight throughout the year.
