Awakened Wall

→ ARCH 510

About
The Awakened Wall is a dynamic living partition with the ability to detect and respond to the movements of living beings. It features nuclei, acting as the central control units, which emit pulsing light to indicate areas of high energy. The scaffold system incorporates motion sensors that trigger immediate responses visible through connected strings of light. The scaffold grid is organized in a repetitive hexagonal pattern, with hexagons surrounded by six triangles. This structure uses angled connectors and thin rods to achieve both lightweight design and spatial dimensionality. Acrylic rods enhance the diffused effect of the flickering lights.

The technical composition for controlling the lights was carefully considered to reflect the emergence and awakening of energy. A pulsing pattern is created through three simultaneous sinusoidal function patterns, each at half the amplitude of the other. Motion sensors act as input to the node controller, with a threshold set to avoid detecting subtle movements. A dampening effect ensures that the light pulses steadily and fades when the subject departs, preserving the energy's memory. Additionally, a five-second delay between sensor activations enhances the sense of awakening and departure. The Awakened Wall embodies a unique blend of technology, design, and artistic expression to engage with the movements and energy of its environment.
