Joel Weeks Library

About
Joel Weeks Library is a library that is designed for the people by the people. It isn’t just a library, but an inviting space that encourages creativity, innovation, and creation. As the users of the
library walk in, they engage with the programs of the library that teach them about the surrounding site and allow them to interact with it.

The library is located near Joel Weeks Park, which was named after ‘Joel Weeks,’ a little boy who passed away in 1982 while playing in Don Mount Housing area, where there were no playgrounds for children at the time. The library serves as an extension of the park by allowing people to construct wooden sculptures in the makerspace for the youngsters that visit there. The library’s programs are divided into sections to encourage people to use the workspace. Visitors are exposed to a range of works created by library users, which are displayed around the space, including the entryway, the shelves on the stairs, and the reading spaces.
